In the second half of 2019, Team Roaring40s was formed; Dan Wise and Ian Yates embarked on a campaign to row across the Atlantic Ocean as part of the Talisker Whisky Atlantic Challenge.
The race, known for being the toughest row in the world, takes participants 3,000 nautical miles from La Gomera in the Canaries, to Antigua. The Roaring40s campaign, fraught with the challenges of Covid and personal situations, certainly wasn’t easy. But in December 2022 Ian and Dan set off to battle high seas and awkward winds, achieving their goal and reaching the Caribbean 53 days later.
Ask the pair what their enduring memories of the crossing are and they’ll tell you of blisters, being thrashed by the oars in rough seas, and losing supplies overboard. But they’ll also describe gazing at the Milky Way during moonless nights, of nature at her wildest, and unparalleled sunrises.
During their multi-year campaign, the Roaring40s team held two fundraising golf days, bringing industry leaders from near and far to enjoy a day of networking at Mallorca’s Alcanada golf club. An appetite for hosting events was born.
